Professional Experience

Nicholas is the lead partner in the firm's Insurance and Employment Groups. He practises in contentious insurance, employment and commercial law in the Australian and South Australian Industrial Relations Commissions, the Supreme and District Courts of South Australia and the Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission.

Nick has special interests in defending claims under anti-discrimination law and the enforcement of post-employment restraints. He has appeared in numerous matters before the Human Rights and Equal Opportunities Commission. He has also defended numerous OHS prosecutions.

Major Assignments

  • Acting in numerous ongoing matters for ING Life Limited; MLC Limited; Zurich Australia Limited; Lumley Life Limited; AXA (National Mutual Life Association of Australasia Limited and Australian Casualty and Life Limited); Suncorp Metway Limited; PW Turk & Associates; and Retail Employees Superannuation Trust.
  • Advising the Receivers and Managers of Harris Scarfe Holdings Ltd including advising on two tranches of redundancies, sale of business issues, extension of EBA, industrial dispute in the AIRC, and various matters in the AIRC, SAIRC and the IRCourt of SA, and the TasIRC.
  • Advising on Normans Wines Ltd redundancy issues in insolvency.
  • Managing investigation of workplace death.
  • Providing employment and IR advice to Amcor Fibre Packaging, United Utilities Australia and NorthWest Water.
  • Preparing due diligence reports in employment, IR, OHS and superannuation.
  • Conducting discrimination disputes in the HREOC and the District Court of South Australia.
  • Conducting litigation on behalf of various applicants in the Coonawarra GI dispute in the AAT.
  • Conducting commercial litigation on behalf of Vinpac International and the Flinders University of South Australia.
