Professional Experience

Vanessa practises in the area of commercial dispute resolution and risk management with diverse experience in contractual, construction and manufacturing, environmental, trade practices, insurance and intellectual property disputes. Her comprehensive knowledge of practice and procedure has been developed in large scale and complex litigation both in practice and initially as an Associate to Justice Gray of the Supreme Court of South Australia.

She has excellent technical and communication skills and a reputation for providing practical advice and clever solutions in complex matters.

Vanessa has a special interest in Intellectual Property law (infringement and reputation/brand protection) and in environmental law. She has also had a long involvement in the arts and retains a strong interest in, and appreciation for this sector.

Major Assignments

  • Acting for one of Australia's largest manufacturers in providing strategic risk management advice in relation to a variety of business disputes across Australia. Recent matters have included a dispute over the proper cost of a multi-million dollar capital works project and an action brought by local residents for pollution emissions.
  • The defence and resolution of Supreme Court proceedings involving the restructure, sale and taxation issues concerning a major professional services practice.
  • The successful enforcement of a US foreign judgment under the common law, including applying for freezing orders in relation to assets.
  • The defence of a prosecution by the ACCC pursuant to the Trade Practices Act 1974 in relation to discount advertising.
